jagRPG: Hint of Playability Update (alpha 0.012)


A big step forward for the engine development. Now you can load into a new or saved game from title, fight for EXP/Gold, level up your characters, shop in the town, and recruit a second character.  Tons more work to do but it's starting to become a game :)


New Version: pre-alpha 0.012 (6/29/2024)

  • Rebuilt New Haven from scratch, fixed low FPS issues!
  • Added treasure/loot persistence, fixed infinite treasure respawns
  • Added conditional dialog allowing for multiple responses pending game progress.
  • Added working EXP gain and Level-up system
  • Updated save/load system to set location of last saved game
  • Added more details to world on each map + new assets
  • Improved all menus in and out of battle


Focused heavily on improving the graphical layout and design of the world. Starting to get the style dialed in. Had to fully redo the town "New Haven" because of some odd FPS issues but there wasn't much going on yet. Running smooth again with lots more detail from last updates including NPCs and Shops. 

Improved on the Save/Load systems to included location.

Lots of work put into the UI and menus. Went back and updated all menu appearances and features in and outside of battle. Re-worked the item submenus and added shops. Still need to build out the settings submenu in the near future. 

NEXT GOALS:

Improve dialog system to make it more modular and dynamic. Build out a system for player responses during conversation. 

Work on cutscenes

Start developing first dungeon area: Shatterfall Pass
